About the Event
Whether you’re managing a backyard market garden or scaling up your farm, healthy soil is the foundation of every thriving harvest. Join us at The FARM 1780 for an afternoon of hands-on learning, practical demonstrations, and connection with fellow local growers.
We’ll kick off at 1:00 PM with check-in and lunch (sandwich platters, chips, and drinks provided). Browse our event guides, grab a bite, and get ready to dive into interactive learning stations led by hands-on practitioners.
What You’ll Learn: Interactive Stations (45 mins each)
- 🌱 Station 1: Raised vs. On-Ground Beds Compare structural pros and cons between raised beds and directly on-ground growing space. Plus, see a live demonstration of the famous “lasagna method” for building rich, organic bed structures step-by-step.
- 🌾 Station 2: Cover Crops & Reduced Disturbance Discover why cover crops and minimum soil disturbance are stronger together. We’ll discuss practical strategies to protect soil structure, reduce weed pressure, and integrate pollinator strips into your crop plan.
- 🌧️ Station 3: Water Management & Soil Quality See soil dynamics in real-time with a live rainfall simulator demonstration and participate in hands-on infiltration testing to measure how effectively different soils absorb and retain water. + Soil Testing & Action Steps to demystify soil tests! Learn the what, when, where, and why of soil sampling, how to interpret your lab test results, and what specific steps to take to fix deficiencies and optimize soil life.
